Let’s face the facts. Constantly having to create new and original content and sharing it on Instagram can be A LOT of work and take tons of time.
But what if I told you there’s a way you can plan out your Instagram content that will not only save you time and energy but will also help you connect with your audience on a deeper level and create more engaging and meaningful content.
Let’s dive into the 5 step process you can use to plan your Instagram content easily and effectively.
A mood board is a visual collage of images used to help portray a particular style. Moodboards are an amazing tool to help you create an overall “look” and theme for your Instagram. You can create a mood board on Pinterest, or directly on Instagram by hitting that “save” button on images you like.
Tip: When making your mood board, save images that have lighting you love, colours you love, and a look you love. After creating your mood board look through it and see if there are any patterns. Do you like bright colourful photos? Do you gravitate towards calming moody images? Use this as a guideline to help you establish your style.
Content buckets are simply different categories within your niche. You want to create 3-5 different content buckets, so you have some variety within your niche. For example, as a food blogger, your content buckets could be dinner recipes, dessert recipes and cooking tips. If you’re a business coach, you may share inspirational business quotes, client spotlights, and coaching tips.
Tip: Get creative with your content buckets. Try and think of different “themes” for your posts you can rotate between that fall within your general topic of expertise.
Before moving into actually creating your content, consider how you can provide value to your audience. You always want your content to: educate, entertain or inspire your audience. In 2020, it’s not enough to simply post a pretty photo with an emoji in the caption on Instagram and expect success.
Tip: Go through your follower’s profiles. Read their bio’s and see what they’re all about. Go through your analytics and make sure to check your audience demographics. Always consider who your audience is before you start creating content.
Being consistent on Instagram is crucial to growing an engaged audience. Having a posting schedule will also give you a lot of mental clarity before you go and create your content. If you know you only need 4 new pieces of content per week, you can move forward knowing exactly how much content you need to create.
Tip: Be realistic here. If you can’t commit to posting 7 days a week, maybe start by posting only 4-5 days a week. Maybe you post a feed post one day, and Instagram stories the next day. Just find a schedule that works to you that you can commit too!
I’m all about time management and doing things that will help me save time. Batch working is the concept of grouping like tasks together, so you' not jumping back and forth between different tasks. Batch working is proven to save tons of time because you alleviate the switching costs associated with multitasking.
Tip: Schedule a day (or however long you need) and batch creating your content for the week. Photograph & film whatever you need to all on the same day. Then block off time and write all your captions and hashtags in one batch. Doing this has saved me hours of time with my content creation process.
